Drywood Termite Extermination

Please understand, not every home qualifies for Liquid treatment.

It takes up to 5 years for drywood termites to develop wings. If you are seeing swarmer’s bodies & wings, you are PAST the point of liquid treatment and fumigation is recommended. The info below is if you detect an early infestation. If it is determined that there is an early infestation, then liquid treatment can be highly effective.

HITMAN’S superior termite control proactive approach is to protect your home against subterranean termites and other wood-destroying organisms before they have a chance to come near your home. HITMAN’S strategically establishes a perimeter barrier of protective and preventative treatment. The strategic barrier intercepts termites before they have a chance to damage your home. In the rare case that termites infest again, they will be aggressively re-treated by HITMAN’S trained professionals at no additional charge, for as long as your agreement is under warranty or renewed.

IDENTIFYING TERMITE INFESTATIONS

Wood destroying insects, such as termites and carpenter ants, can do massive amounts of damage to a home. This can have a terrible impact on a home’s value. In humid climate areas where termites thrive, it is common to see homes destroyed by wood destroying insects. Some homes are completely hollowed out and their wood siding can turn to dust with merely a touch.

How do I prevent termite infestation?

There are a few things that you can do to make your home “less attractive” to termites. Termites live in the ground and look for areas that provide food, shelter, and moisture close to the ground. Wood is food for termites, so anywhere that wood touches the ground is a good place for termites to inhabit. This is especially true if the soil stays moist in this area. Separating wood from the soil is the first step towards deterring wood destroying insects.

Mulch, landscaping material, and shade can help your soil to retain moisture. Minimizing these things near your home will help to keep termites at bay. Anything that holds moisture in the soil should be placed at least one foot from your home. Firewood stacks are magnets for termites and carpenter ants. Gutters that empty too close to the home’s foundation are also a problem. Eliminating moisture problems in basements and crawlspaces is another preventative measure you can take in addition to hiring a professional to treat and protect your home.

Be sure to find out how long the treatments last. The chemicals on the market today generally protect your home for up to 5 years.

How do I know if my home has termites?

Experts are trained in finding hidden termite damage. Many home inspections do not include professional termite inspection, so do not assume that a home is termite-free until you have had an actual Wood Destroying Organism (WDO) inspection. We perform thorough, professional inspections that will reveal termites and other wood destroying insects in your home. Protect the investment that you have made in your home by contacting us.

POWDER POST BEETLES

Powder Post Beetles are so called because in high numbers they can turn the inside of a piece of wood into nothing more than a mass of fine powder. These wood destroying beetles can do severe damage to log homes, furniture, wood floors and structural timbers in your home, much more damage than that done by carpenter ants or old house borers.
Powder post beetles are small (1/8 inch), and adult beetles are seldom seen. Most of the life cycle is spent in the grub or larvae stage eating wood. Damage is done by the larvae as they create narrow, meandering tunnels in wood as they feed. This stage can last between 1-10 years, depending upon several factors including species of beetle, type of wood infested, age of wood, moisture content of wood and air temperature.

Termites/WDO Inspections

HITMAN Termite & Pest Control specializes in providing prompt and accurate Wood Destroying Inspection Reports for real estate transactions. Whenever a wood-destroying organism (WDO) inspection is to be put in writing, the State of Florida requires Form 1145 to be used and certain guidelines must be followed. According to Florida Statutes under Section 482, only pest control professionals that are licensed in termites are permitted to issue Form 1145/Wood Destroying Organism Reports. These reports are sometimes referred to as “Termite Home Inspection” Reports, but this is misleading. According to the State, wood destroying organism means arthropod, or plant life, which damages and can re-infest wood in a structure; namely termites, powder post beetles, and old house borers, and wood decaying fungi.

Banks and lenders usually require a wood destroying organism (WDO) report to be completed before they issue a mortgage.

We understand the importance of the wood destroying organism report in real estate transactions. We, at HITMAN Termite & Pest Control, are licensed by the State of Florida and have had extensive training along with several years of experience in the identification of wood destroying organisms. We service Broward, Palm Beach and Nassau counties and can provide same day service upon request.
